This tool is designed to help communities assess their interest in various safety issues that could affect a community and its citizens. There are three major classifications of these issues:

  1. Traffic Safety
  2. Other Unintentional Injuries
  3. Intentional Injuries

The tool will first assess each coalition member's interest in each issue on a scale from 1-7. Next, the tool will present the average score of all coalition members for each issue. Finally, TIPS will describe various related sources and provide website links that can help communities, coalitions, or individuals begin to deal with these issues.

When using TIPS to assess your coalition's interest in the included safety issues, you may feel as though you do not have enough information about a specific topic to make an accurate assessment of how much of a problem that issue is for your community. While you can enter "Not Sure" as your response, we encourage you and your coalition to educate yourselves on the topic in question before completing the survey. Assistance for this is available from OHSP as well as internet sources. For example, if you are intersted in learning about what types of crashes occur in your county, you can access this information by clicking on the following link for the Michigan Traffic Crash Facts website.
